Adam coleads McKinsey’s energy, sustainability, and mineral work in Africa. Based in Kenya, he works across the entire continent as a trusted adviser to clients in both the public and private sectors. Besides supporting multiple government ministers of power, finance, and mineral resources with strategic planning at the national and regional levels, Adam has counseled the executive management of private-sector investors pursuing opportunities in Africa.

Examples of Adam’s recent client projects include the following:

  • collaborating with a leading development finance institution to attract foreign investment into African manufacturing, with a focus on energy, minerals, and emerging green industries
  • advising lenders, investors, and philanthropic organizations on climate finance in emerging markets, including risk mitigation
  • advising public- and private-sector leaders on mineral-based industrial development in Africa, including battery manufacturing, downstream industry opportunities, and responsible resource development strategies
  • leading a project comparing mini-grid installation costs in developing and OECD markets, identifying key cost drivers and opportunities to narrow cost gaps
  • leading development of three African nations’ energy transition plans, including developing an emissions baseline, projections, and capital expenditure requirements to support the pathway
  • leading strategy projects for power companies, including supporting African IPPs and holding companies on growth opportunities in commercial, industrial power, and distributed renewable energy applications
