Helps private capital and financial services clients achieve superior performance through rigorous focus on value creation and technology innovation

Alex is a senior leader in McKinsey’s Private Capital Practice, serving a range of investors, financial services firms, and their portfolio companies. He has advised these investors for more than a quarter century. He works closely with private equity funds and alternative asset managers across asset classes, including buyout, growth equity, venture capital, private credit, infrastructure, secondaries, and real estate funds.

Working closely with both investors and corporate management teams, he has advised leading institutions worldwide. With investors, he has helped set firmwide aspirations and strategies; build new businesses, asset classes, and distribution capabilities; expand geographically; improve fundraising and capital formation; source investment ideas; and conduct commercial and operational due diligence on hundreds of companies. Alex works closely with publicly or privately owned corporates on setting their strategies and value-creation plans, improving performance, navigating complexity, and driving growth. His work spans a broad spectrum—from large-scale performance transformations and corporate turnarounds to organizational design and capability building, operational improvements, and digital and technology enablement.

Alex is the lead author of McKinsey’s annual Global Private Markets Report and hosts the Deal Volume podcast, where he shares our latest views on the industry and interviews prominent alternative asset management leaders. He is often quoted by leading business and industry publications on private equity, private credit, and the broader financial services and investment industry.

He founded McKinsey’s CFO-focused practice in 2001 and continues to counsel CFOs on their enterprise leadership and functional mandates. He also cofounded McKinsey’s work on corporate and business functions and has held leadership roles across our firm’s strategy, operations, technology, organization, and sourcing practices.

Alex coled McKinsey’s automation and AI work globally, helping clients harness next-generation technologies to drive innovation and enterprise value. In this capacity, he advises CEOs, CFOs, and COOs across industries and is a frequent speaker on digital transformation, AI, and leadership in the age of technology.

Outside of his work with McKinsey, Alex serves as a trustee of Prep for Prep, an internationally recognized not-for-profit dedicated to developing future leaders by expanding educational access for New York City’s most promising students of color. He chairs the organization’s board technology committee.

Before joining McKinsey, Alex was a Fulbright Scholar in France.
