John is a partner in McKinsey’s Boston office and a leader in the Consumer and Private Capital Practices. He specializes in restaurant, franchising, and other consumer-focused work for investors and management teams in the United States, supporting financial sponsors and strategic acquirers throughout the investment life cycle.
He works with quick-service, fast-casual, and full-service restaurant brands; franchise operators; food and beverage companies; distributors and suppliers; and restaurant technology providers. John combines sector expertise with extensive transaction experience to help clients identify opportunities, mitigate risk, and accelerate value creation. His experience includes:
- leading pre-investment commercial and operational due diligence for restaurant and foodservice assets on behalf of private equity sponsors and corporate buyers
- developing domestic and international growth strategies, including whitespace assessments, unit expansion plans, franchise partnership models, and store economic projections
- shaping M&A strategy, separation planning, and IPO-readiness initiatives for consumer-facing businesses
- supporting portfolio companies with pricing, menu, format, digital, and operating model improvements to drive sustainable growth
- advising boards and management teams on long-term strategy and capital deployment decisions
John primarily serves clients in the United States, with additional experience in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He has also developed perspectives on emerging foodservice trends, delivery platforms, merchant technology, and evolving consumer behavior.
Before joining McKinsey, John was a principal at L.E.K. Consulting, where he focused on private equity and consumer sectors. He also worked at Procter & Gamble in brand management. John holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and a bachelor’s degree cum laude from Dartmouth College.
