Leads McKinsey’s thinking across a range of M&A topics, including how to flawlessly execute large and complex integrations, and is specially focused on commercial topics spanning revenue risk management, revenue synergies, and sales integration. Rui also founded and leads McKinsey’s myIMO solution and is responsible for all its client deployments.

Rui is a Partner in the M&A practice and has been involved in 200+ integrations. He personally led 15 large, global mergers.

Recent examples of Rui’s work include:

  • conducting integration planning (including full user migration; tech enablement; and go-to-market activation) for online food distribution players in Asia–Pacific
  • carrying out pre-close (~16 months) support with all aspects of integration planning—including value creation thesis; day one readiness; NewCo org structure; brand integration strategy; and system and regulatory cutovers—for a high-profile merger in the transportation and logistics sector in North America
  • conducting pre-close (>12 months) support across day one readiness, corporate strategy, capability building, and post-close transformation for a media buy-side carveout and integration
  • leading pre-close (>12 months) day one readiness and operating model design for the commercial functions and business units of a merger between two leading financial institutions in North America
  • managing the day one readiness and country-by-country ERP cutover process for a global buy-side carveout in consumer healthcare with delayed markets and multiple hold-separate and other regulatory complications
  • conducting pre-close planning and post-close transformation of a retail sales force for an industrial merger
  • carrying out pre-close (>12 months) support on day one readiness and design of a NewCo for a global merger in industrial gases
  • leading pre-close commercial integration planning and execution for two Pan-American distribution companies (including full detail of customer account plans and complete redesign of sales organization for day one)
  • conducting end-to-end buy-side carveout integration for a large pharma and consumer healthcare organization
  • managing end-to-end commercial integration of a B2B telecom merger (including day one readiness; customer communications, segmentation, and channel integration; and sales territory design and implementation)

Rui initially joined McKinsey in the Lisbon office after completing his Master's Degree in Civil Engineering. He completed his MBA from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University prior to joining McKinsey’s New York Office in 2009.
