Steve is a senior partner in the New York office who partners primarily with retailers and other consumer-facing companies to architect and execute end-to-end strategy, commercial, and operational transformations. Drawing on his strong foundation in corporate finance and expertise in retail merchandising and operations, he works with leadership teams to meaningfully alter the trajectory of their businesses.
Prior to his current role, Steve led McKinsey’s strategy and corporate finance team for the consumer sector. He is also a member of McKinsey’s consumer sector operating committee.
Examples of his recent client work include:
- leading a holistic performance transformation at an iconic global apparel brand, improving profitability significantly
- modernizing the merchandising function of a leading multicategory retailer by, among other things, establishing a world-class merchandising analytics team and a capability-building academy
- resetting the go-to-market operating model for a global luxury goods brand to support a new multichannel strategy, resulting in increased productivity and improved customer experience
- guiding a multicategory retailer through a liquidity crunch, resulting in a new capital structure and enhanced financial planning and analysis capabilities
- conducting due diligence and executing M&A strategies in private equity and public company settings
Steve is based in New York City and has lived and worked in Europe and Asia. He frequently authors key McKinsey research and speaks on consumer topics.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Steve was an investment banker focused on mergers and acquisitions in the consumer sector. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and BS and MS degrees in finance and accounting from Bentley University.
