Thomas is a partner in McKinsey’s Munich office and a leader in the firm’s tech and AI work. He leads McKinsey’s global tech and AI performance team, which focuses on IT diagnostics, benchmarking, cost transformation, and specialized delivery assets. He works with CFOs, CIOs, and executive teams across industries to create transparency on IT spend, reduce structural costs, and redesign fragmented IT operating models across corporate functions, business units, and geographies.
Since joining McKinsey in 2009, Thomas has supported clients on large-scale IT performance and operating model transformations. He has a particular focus on improving transparency, accountability, and reinvestment capacity. Examples of his recent client work include:
- assessing IT performance for a leading optical-systems and electronics manufacturer with fragmented IT, identifying significant run-rate savings and mobilizing the cost-reduction road map
- conducting IT stock-taking and defining the target picture for a leading automotive original equipment manufacturer, mobilizing a transformation program across its IT function, business, and corporate stakeholders
- shaping the realignment of IT responsibilities between the headquarters and business units of a leading railway provider, defining a path to capture substantial savings in its central IT
- delivering IT consolidation across numerous countries for a leading wholesaler, capturing recurring savings and outsourcing legacy services to unlock capacity for modernization and AI
- driving IT centralization and outsourcing for a specialized life-sciences player to capture run-rate savings in infrastructure and application management
- driving a public-private partnership to establish a sovereign cloud proposition for the public sector by aligning government, technology, and delivery stakeholders on scope, operating model, and go-to-market
Prior to joining McKinsey, Thomas was a consultant at Accenture for four years, focusing on system integration and technology projects around SAP business intelligence. He holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in business information systems from the Ravensburg University of Cooperative Education.
